This car is eligible for a 30% Federal Clean Car Tax Credit or an Instant Rebate at the time of sale through KeySavvy to qualifying buyers. The tax credit saves you money off your taxes next year that are due April 15th. The Instant Rebate is money you get taken off the price of the car right when you buy it. Remember that this tax credit or rebate expires September 30th. Visit the KeySavvy website for details on the purchase process for the Instant Rebate and the fees they charge. I am registered at the IRS to process the tax credit and there is no additional fee for that. (Can’t process the credit or rebate for Maryland buyers.) For example, this means that at the sale price of $3,250, you effectively pay $2,275 after the tax credit and get almost $1,000 off! See the qualifications and buyer requirements at the following websites: CLICK HERE for the IRS Clean Vehicle Tax Credit Checklist pdf. CLICK HERE for the list of eligible vehicles. CLICK HERE for the car on KeySavvy. Remember, there are NO minimum income requirements to take full advantage of the instant rebate, as opposed to the tax credit which isn’t very useful if you have low or no taxable income. So if for example, you are a student, retiree, or have many deductions or business expenses that lower your taxable income to a small amount, a tax credit when you do your taxes in April won’t save you much if anything at all, depending on what your taxable income turns out to be. In summary, there are these three scenarios for the sale: 1) If you elect to take the instant rebate, you will pay KeySavvy directly for the car. You pay the sale price less 30% and less any deposit plus KeySavvy buyers fees. I will then send the title to KeySavvy. When KeySavvy receives and verifies the title, the car can be picked up or delivered. 2) If you elect the tax credit, you will pay me the sale price less any deposit and I will process the IRS 25E Used Vehicle Time of Sale Report form on the IRS Clean Energy website at the time of delivery or when the car is paid for, and provide an IRS generated receipt form 15400 for your tax records. 3) If you don’t take the tax credit or rebate, you will pay me the sale price less any deposit when the car is picked up or delivered. |
The following information gives a comprehensive overview of the Ford Focus Electric. If you are already familiar with the car, you may want to skip down to the pictures and description. And it’s best to view this listing on a desktop or laptop computer. A smartphone won’t give you the same details.
This is a 2013 Ford Focus EV finished in Ingot Silver metallic paint with the Light Stone leather interior. Being an electric car, it is a Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) so it puts out no tailpipe exhaust emissions or greenhouse gases. The Focus EV is powered by a 23-kWh liquid cooled 318 volt Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery pack powering a 107-kilowatt AC induction electric motor putting out 143 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a single speed “automatic transmission” connected to the front wheels. An electric motor puts out its maximum torque at ZERO rpm, and with 181 lb-ft on tap from a standing start, acceleration is brisk to say the least. When combined with a smooth and seamless flow of power available from a transmission that never has to pause for a shift, along with the absence of noise from an internal combustion engine, you get a driving experience like no conventional cars can offer. You will have a grin on your face every time you step on the accelerator and leave most other cars in your wake. Think TESLA junior at a fraction of the price.
The Ford Focus EV’s closest competitor was the Nissan Leaf, however, the Focus is a better car mechanically and in terms of content than the Leaf, with a more upscale look and feel as well as better technology. The battery in the Focus EV is liquid cooled for superior thermal management and longevity compared to the Leaf battery. This is why you can find so many Leafs for sale with degraded batteries that only have a range of 30 or 40 miles. Some Leafs have a 3.3 kW onboard charger while the Focus has a 6.6 kW charger that reduces 240V charging times from 8 hours to just 4 hours on a fully depleted battery. The Leaf was sold in three trim levels, S, SV and SL with base prices ranging from $29,000 to $35,000. The Focus EV is based on the Focus Titanium trim level which is the top of the line and basically includes all the options. It had a base price of $40,000 back in 2013 and was more than double the price of the entry level Focus! This Focus came with the optional leather interior, raising the sticker price to $41,000. But because it was a hot new model, most dealers were adding additional market adjustment markups (read rip off), so with tax, title and tags, the original owner paid well over $45,000 for it! CLICK HERE to see the price new.
The Focus EV’s powertrain combined with excellent aerodynamics and numerous energy saving features, allows the Focus to get an amazing EPA combined rating of 105 mpg gas equivalent (mpge). And because of the peculiarities of stop and go driving, it gets an even higher 110 mpge in city driving. The Focus electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery pack that can be recharged overnight by plugging in to any standard 110-volt household outlet with the included Ford factory charging cable. The charging cable comes with a 220V adaptor so if you have an electric dryer, you can plug into the dryer outlet for even faster charging of just a few hours. You can also install a 220V outlet on the outside of your house or in the garage if you don’t already have one. And if you already have a charging station, I can take $100 off the sale price if you don’t want the included charging cable and adapter. A Dual-Mode drive system has Drive (D) and Low (L) selections. In Drive mode the car provides normal forward driving, while in Low, regenerative braking is increased so the range of the vehicle is extended. Other features that save energy are electric power steering, regenerative braking that makes use of energy that other cars waste while braking and coasting by recharging the battery pack, active grill shutters that are used to control airflow through the engine bay, flush mounted windshield without any upper molding, and a host of other aerodynamic tweaks like a roof mounted rear spoiler combined with an under bumper diffuser further smoothes out airflow around the car, underbody panels that seal off the engine compartment to aid under-car airflow, as the aerodynamics under a car are just as important as above it. The result is a drag coefficient of 0.29, which is excellent for any passenger vehicle and one of the lowest in its class.
Not only is the Focus EV economical to drive, it’s also economical to maintain, being as close as any car maker has come to producing a maintenance free automobile. Without a conventional internal combustion engine or multi-speed transmission, this Focus requires no oil changes, no spark plug and plug wire replacements, no timing belt or chain replacements or valve adjustments, etc. Plus there is no exhaust system, muffler, catalytic converter, oxygen sensors, ignition coils, throttle body, fuel injectors, etc. to wear out. About the only routine scheduled maintenance for the Focus EV are brake fluid changes and cabin filter replacements, both of which have just been performed. And if you are into being green, then besides emitting no pollutants, the Focus EV may be eligible for numerous perks such as being able to drive alone in the HOV carpool lanes without a passenger, being exempt from annual emissions inspections, free or reduced parking rates at downtown or airport parking lots, reduced annual registration fees or initial sales taxes, etc. Check your state or local government for more details.
Rounding out the Focus EV are brakes, steering and suspension that give excellent handling on twisting back roads while still providing a smooth comfortable ride on pot-marked city streets. Start off with a rigid chassis and unit body construction for a stiff foundation and add in a four-wheel independent suspension with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup in the rear as well as anti-roll bars all around. Add speed-sensitive variable-assist rack and pinion electric power steering (EPS) for precise handling and 17 inch aluminum wheels with low profile 225/50 ZR rated performance tires for maximum cornering grip. For secure stopping there are four-wheel disc brakes using drilled rotors front AND rear with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) and the Brake Assist System (BAS) that can sense panic stopping and automatically apply all available power brake boost instantly to potentially reduce stopping distances during emergency braking situations. For maximum control in all road conditions, the traction control system along with AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control (ESC) uses the components from the ABS system and the electronic throttle to regulate engine torque to enhance directional control with over/understeering of the vehicle being counteracted by applying brakes to the appropriate wheel to create a countervailing vehicle movement which helps prevent the vehicle from skidding out of control when cornering on slippery roads. Hill-Start Assist rollback protection keeps the brakes engaged for a moment when you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator and prevents the car from rolling back when taking off from an incline. It goes without saying that the Ford Focus EV is one fun car to drive, and that it’s quicker, faster and handles better than many other EVs in it’s class such as the Nissan Leaf or Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
The Ford Focus’s exterior look is upscale and attractive, with front-end styling having more than just a passing resemblance to Aston Martin models of that era. No doubt influenced from Ford’s previous ownership of the brand in the not too distant past. CLICK HERE for an Aston Martin picture to see the resemblance. From its sleek lines and flowing curves incorporating elements from premium European sports cars, it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. A quick walk around the car reveals how the Focus is one of the more stylish vehicles ever created in the compact class of automobiles. Start up front at the bumper with its short narrow nose containing a trapezoid shaped upper grille with bright aluminum ribs and a matte black lower grille below it. (Think Aston Martin here.) The lower grille is surrounded by aerodynamic strakes facing forward and spats molded in to the sides of the bumper. The hood has a curved notch at the front highlighting the Ford blue-oval emblem, while cats-eye clear lens projector beam headlights flow back from the bumper along the hood. The hood itself has two step-down creases to meet the fender, which themselves have a feature line originating from the bumper and going rearward into the doors for flared muscular look. Next, a steeply raked windshield meets the roof and the feature line coming from the fender fades away at the front of the door, while a second one below it starting from the rear of the fender, continues rearward. Body colored door handles and mirror caps give a monochromatic look. The mirrors incorporate chic euro style LED secondary turn signal lights (repeaters). The beautiful 15-spoke aluminum wheels shod with low profile tires, add visual appeal. Then, going back, the cars’ lines meld into the tailgate with a body color spoiler at the top behind the Eurostyle shorty antenna on the roof. On both sides, large LED taillights provide excellent visibility for following drivers, as do the reflectors in the bumper. A matte black diffuser under the bumper aids aerodynamics while the mesh design accentuates the look.
The exterior is beautiful to look at, but the Ford interior designers did a great job inside as well. Without having to take the key out of your pocket or purse, just grab the door handle and notice how the car unlocks itself. Get in and sit down into a sport bucket power seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with settings for height adjustment, recline and lumbar. Check out how supportive the side bolsters are and how comfortable the cushions feel. Note the attractive abstract pattern of perforations in the leather that look great and keep your back cooler. Then adjust the tilt and telescoping sport steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the four-spoke design and thickly padded rim affords just the right grip and that the cruise control and multi-function display switches are just a fingertip away. Titanium accents add visual appeal. Next, look ahead at the dashboard with the large easy to read instrument cluster. Look right and left at the titanium accents and chrome trim on the door panels and the center console as well as on radio controls in the center stack. If it’s nighttime, see the ambient mood lighting cast a soft glow of color throughout the interior and in the color of your choice. Finally, glance down at the leather shift boot and shifter with more titanium accents. Not only is the styling all sport, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the thickly padded steering wheel, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car.
Next, take it out for a spin. And again, without having to take the key out of your pocket or purse, step on the brake pedal and press the POWER button. Notice the quiet as the splash screens illuminate and the car powers up. After putting your seatbelt on, put it into reverse to back out. See how clearly the backup camera shows the view behind in the touch-screen display. If you’re not paying attention, or happen to be looking in the rearview mirrors and don’t notice an object behind you, no worries. The parking assist Reverse Sensing System will beep in proportion to the distance from the object to warn you. Now put it in drive and step on the gas, err…, accelerator pedal and feel how rapidly and silently the car accelerates. Be careful the first time as you may chirp the tires. Find a winding road with some sharp curves and feel how well the side bolsters keep you firmly in place and how the suspension hugs the pavement. Drive over some bumps and see how the suspension gives a secure yet comfortable ride. At the next traffic light, step on the brakes and feel how smoothly they perform with no pedal pulsations and notice the steering wheel is on dead center with no pulling to one side. Now get on the highway and notice how easily it keeps up with traffic and in virtual silence. So whether on congested city streets, open highways, or twisting back roads, you will be amazed how smooth and comfortable this Focus EV is to drive.

In addition, this Focus EV has all it’s underbody panels installed. If a mechanic forgets to replace a panel or you run over a curb and break one off, your economy may suffer as the aerodynamics under a car are just as important as above it. If you are looking at other Focus EVs for sale as well, check underneath and make sure all the following panels are still intact as they are not cheap to replace.

The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent carpet, upholstery, dashboard and door panels with no significant signs of wear. The car doesn‘t appear to have been smoked in. In fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The cargo area looks like it was never used.
Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The motor and “transmission” are nearly silent and silky smooth. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has a pair of Uniroyal Power Paw tires with excellent tread and a pair of Riken Raptor tires with good tread. These are all-season M+S rated tires. They combine exceptional all-season wet/dry traction, extended comfort and excellent handling. They have been balanced with weights mounted on the inside of the wheel for a super clean look.
The car was fully checked out and serviced with over $1,100 worth of new or recent parts, maintenance and repairs so that only your enjoyment rather than your immediate attention will be required on delivery. Some of the items checked or serviced include:

The car has been dealer maintained throughout its life, so with all the above mentioned service the car has recently received, you should be good to go for many more years before requiring any maintenance or repairs.
Overall this is a super sharp car that looks absolutely fantastic in this Ingot silver color. In addition, since it’s a rare car so you don’t see many Focus Electrics out on the road, you’re sure to get many questions and complements about it at the mall or supermarket parking lot from total strangers. If you don’t want attention, or if you are the least bit shy, don’t buy this car, I warn you.
This is a ONE owner southern car from Maryland which is probably why it’s so clean. CLICK HERE to see the title. It also has an accident-free 1-owner clean history report. CLICK HERE to see the Experian AutoCheck.
The car comes with all the books:
Two factory Intelligent Access keys:
Two key blades:
A set of factory carpeted floor mats:
A front license plate bracket if your state requires one:
And a Ford charging cable with 110 and 220 volt adaptors:
If you are serious about buying a very clean Ford Focus EV, this is about as low as they go in this condition. Remember, you can get a great deal online with prices sometimes way below retail, but nobody is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. Also when comparing prices to the other EVs listed for sale, remember the things that you won’t have to spend money on soon after getting it home. With this car you won’t have to spend over $1,000 on paint and body work, you won’t have to spend $500 on a new set of tires, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete front brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a complete rear brake service, you won’t have to spend $300 on a battery and brake fluid change. With many of the other listings on Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook or on dealers lots, you’re lucky if they even check the tires before delivery. When comparing this car to the others, also keep in mind that this car runs great, is fully serviced, hasn’t been smoked in and is very clean. Also check if they come with both key fobs and key blades because a new pair from the dealer, with programming and cutting, is going to cost you $250. And if you lost that only fob, it’ll cost three times as much to replace the security module plus the towing charge.
If you are looking for a Focus EV in beautiful condition at a great price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. Located in the Suburban Washington DC area. Delivery possible at reasonable cost.
